download program
im looking for a good download program thats simular to Limewire or something like that that works and installs easy on Linux.

Limewire works on linux. You need java installed first.
Amule will access the same network. It does not require Java. |
Or you can try bittorrent, it's a little different than limewire, edonkey, etc. It's best for transferring huge files like 4GBs or more.
Here is a FAQ of bittorrent: http://dessent.net/btfaq/ The client I use is Azureus but you need Java for it. http://azureus.sourceforge.net/ -bhert |
ya i have that. im using Ktorrent right now. im downloading full CD's but its SLOWWWWWW

when i try to download amule it says file not found. how do i install .rpm files on ubuntu?
|
one more thing. im trying to play a movie i downloaded and its telling me there was a problem cause i dont have the wmvdmod.dll decoder. so i downloaded it, now im just now sure what to do. im using kaffeine.

rpm's won't install on to ubuntu as it is a debian based distro (in the sense that the packages it uses are debian ones). See here http://www.debianadmin.com/install-r...nd-ubuntu.html. Basically, try and find a .deb for the program you want.
|
on alien for some reason it keeps telling me it cant find the file.
|
oot@3[~]# alien -d limewirelinux.rpm
File "limewirelinux.rpm" not found. root@3[~]# alien -k LimeWireLinux.rpm File "LimeWireLinux.rpm" not found. |
Krimp, download LimeWire from here --> http://www.limewire.com/english/content/home.shtml
There are instructions on that site on how to install it. This is a program the authors try to sell you the "PRO" version. As such, they own the code, so you not likely to find an RPM file for installation. Remember you need a working java installation first. |
Use Frostwire instead, it's better and has a native Ubuntu package:

ohhh thank you!
|
does self extracting files work with debian/ubuntu?
|
still having the same problem. im obviously doing something wrong. whenever i try to run a command for a certain file it always says no such file or directory exists.
|
You can use the alien -d command to gnerate a .deb file from the LimeWireLinux.rpm file.
Hint: In the feature you can always just type the name of the command you that you unsure of and press enter in a terminal window. |
