Err......... RHEL4 is gcc-3.4.6 already perhaps you really want to install the compat gcc packages;
[ ] compat-gcc-32-3.2.3-47.3.x86_64.rpm 09-Oct-2005 20:30 3.2M
[ ] compat-gcc-32-c++-3.2.3-47.3.x86_64.rpm 09-Oct-2005 20:30 4.7M
[ ] compat-glibc-2.3.2-95.30.i386.rpm 05-Sep-2005 11:59 1.0M
[ ] compat-glibc-2.3.2-95.30.x86_64.rpm 09-Oct-2005 20:30 1.5M
[ ] compat-glibc-headers-2.3.2-95.30.x86_64.rpm 09-Oct-2005 20:30 463K
[ ] compat-libcom_err-1.0-5.i386.rpm 05-Sep-2005 11:59 4.6K
[ ] compat-libcom_err-1.0-5.x86_64.rpm 09-Oct-2005 20:30 4.7K
[ ] compat-libgcc-296-2.96-132.7.2.i386.rpm 05-Sep-2005 11:59 50K
[ ] compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3.i386.rpm 05-Sep-2005 11:59 226K
[ ] compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3.x86_64.rpm 09-Oct-2005 20:30 224K
[ ] compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-132.7.2.i386.rpm 05-Sep-2005 11:59 176K
It is not a good idea to downgrade gcc, this is a good way to kill RHEL4 if one does.

i have to install some gcc rpms in my machine for oracle installation.
i downloaded those rpms from internet.
But while installing those rpms it is saying some dependency failure that gcc 3.4.6-3.1 is needed.
where as gcc 3.4.6-3 is already there installed.
and i am not able to find 3.4.6-3.1 anywhere on internet or Linux installation CDs.
So, any suggestions to solve this problem or where i could find this gcc version that is needed.

naveenkarkra,
Can I ask why you picked the "LQ Suggestions & Feedback" forum for this question?

Then I would suggest that you pay for a valid subscription to RHN and update since RHEL4 update 5 is out and has gcc-3.4.6-8 available. Also you may need to have both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions installed since you are x86_64 and you did not post the version (32 or 64 bit) of the oracle installation packages.
