Download file into directory as root?
I want to download a file into a directory as root (i.e. usr/local/src). I get a message saying that I don't have permission. Is there a way I can download the file as root without logging in as root and without changing permissions to the directory to accept a regular user.

Have you tried using su?
type su and hit enter type in root password, hit enter copy or move the file from your home dir to the target dir. |
actually, that is what i did, however, i was wondering if i could do it straight from the browser and save directly to the desired directory.
side note... XavierP, i see by your signature that you have a toshiba laptop. do u have linux installed on it? if so, what distro and did the install go alright? i, too, have a toshiba laptop and i am considering installing linux on it. |
No problems with installing Slackware, Red Hat or Mandrake. I had problems with Debian, but that may be me.
For work reasons I now dual boot between XP and Red Hat. All works well. |
