math-linux from SourceForge.net. when i download it goes to a map. ? after a few weeks with ubuntu its no wonder the nerves are shot

pixellany 02-17-2010 08:11 AM

Ubuntu is easier to use than Windows, but that's another story.

What is the name of the file that you downloaded? Use copy and paste to get it exact.

pixellany 02-17-2010 08:15 AM

Is this what you downloaded?
math-linux-2009-03-09.iso

If so, it is a CD image. Presumably, you will need to burn this image to a CD and then boot from the CD.

Are you asking where the file goes when you download it? That would be dependent on your system and can be found by looking at your browser preferences.

PS: Do you know anyone who has used this software? Have you consider other options such as Python?

tealeaf 02-17-2010 09:47 AM

tealeaf 02-17-2010 09:58 AM

Excuse me???? Please go back through the thread and count the questions I have asked you, how many times I have asked each question, and how many you have answered.

Next, count the suggestions that I have made.

If you want to pursue solving your issue, then answer my questions and suggestions--and those of other members. Otherwise, this will be closed.

What is the exact filename that you have on your computer after having downloaded the math-linux program?

A troll is something that springs up and causes trouble, usually on purpose. The mythological trolls would pop up one bridges and cause trouble for passing travelers, often charging a toll. If the toll isn't paid then generally it would attack or refuse access to the bridge.

As it goes you should consider that you have been offered suggestions in this thread that you seemingly did not check or acknowledge until later on. I would advise you to read this thread, while what you are doing isn't strictly speaking covered here, I think it might still benefit you to read it.

Can you please expand on what you mean by they came in as maps? You are not describing your problem with any real meaningful detail and this makes it harder to diagnose your problem.

I think i will forget it. i dont understand your talk, thanks anyway.

Well, I went to the math-linux project page and clicked the Download Now! link. The file I ended up with was an ISO image. So basically, I just had to right-click on it, and select Write to Disc in order to load it into my CD burning application (at that point, I stopped the experiment, as the burn itself isn't the issue here). FWIW, I'm on Ubuntu 8.10. EDIT: In fact, simply clicking the file does the trick. In other words, no need to right-click and select the Write to Disc option at all.

in Firefox:
  1. Go to the download link
  2. Click on it
  3. Choose to save the file
  4. Click OK, and a download window will appear

Note that not using a proper download manager is a little risky, but I didn't figure out any way to get the actual URL of the file from the SourceForge page.
