double fedora on boot ?

Hi why there are two fedora versions with the exact same name on boot screen ?
Before I had three options... Windows 7, fedora ("version number"), fedora (safe mode).
Now the fedora ("version number") is doubled!
That happened after installing eclipse (followed a tutorial) and getting some c++ libraries.

Any ideas ?
Thanks

The "version number" refers to the version of the Linux kernel.
It is normal for Fedora to upgrade your kernel when a new version is available.
When this happens you will have your choice of the new kernel or the old kernel (in case the new kernel has a problem and you need to troubleshoot).
Totally normal and nothing to worry about.

Thanks for replying!
If it's normal then OK. What seemed strange to me was that the both versions of the kernel have the same number!
Also as far as I recall, I was the one who did the update on terminal. Is there a scenario where I shouldn't have updated it because i already had the latest update ?
And now i have 2 versions of the same kernel ?

Can you copy and paste the output of the terminal command:

Code:
ls /boot
This will help us see what you have instead of talking in the abstract.

Hi,

Generally "yum update" command will download & install most of the new packages whenever available(including kernel).
Here, your kernel will be upgraded(**NOT UPDATED**).You will be having 3 different kernel versions in fedora(may be different for other destro's)by default.

You can change this in your /etc/yum.conf file.
By default: installonly_limit=3(you can change this to limit the kernels).

not is it only normal BUT it is a SAFETY NET for you

if a kernel updates is bad you can boot to the last known good kernel

and if in fixing it you mess up the RUNNING version
you have a third BACK UP

Looks like you have 3 different kernels installed as is totally normal for a Fedora install. Nothing to worry about.

why are you posting the different language files ?

the 3 listings in the "menu.lis" / "grub.conf"
ARE 100% PERFECTLY NORMAL and WANTED

1)the first is the CURRENT kernel
2)The second is a BACK-UP !!
3)and the third is an EMERGENCY BACK UP in case the second one fails

^ i ask him to post the list of files in his boot dir... i still use grub-1 which has far fewer files than grub-2.

i still dont see a menu.lst/ grub.conf; not sure how to edit the os boot order list in grub-2.

i see this: /boot/grub2/grub.cfg... can you post the contents of that file; in grub-1 i would just comment out the (#) the lines i dont want.
