Unhappy Don't know how to make a Suse install disk


Don't know how to make a Suse install disk.I have a newer system, but can't boot from CD-rom drive.I've tried several things, but nothing has worked yet.Any suggestions,I'm running Mandrake on my system now

does you BIOS have boot options? you should be able to configure it to boot from CD.

Also, where did you get your suse cd's from?

I tried setting the CD-rom to be the first boot device,but it still goes straight to Mandrake???
I picked a copy from comp-USA for 19.00

you'll need two, the bootdisk plus the 1st module disk

dd if=/cdrom/disks/bootdisk of=/dev/fd0
dd if=/cdrom/disks/modules1 of=/dev/fd0

sure, get two blank floppies ready, put the 1st suse cd in the cd drive and mount it, insert a floppy in the drive and mount it. then at the command line type dd if=/cdrom/disks/bootdisk of=/dev/fd0.

it copys from the infile ( if=/path/to/file) to the outfile (of=/directory/you/want/the/file/copied/to)

for normal files you could copy/paste from a GUI, but boot images have to be exact copys, so we must use the 'dd' utility at the command line.
