host name log in issue -- fc2

hello everyone,

while running fc2, i was attempting to configure my network card to recognize my dsl connection, router, etc. in the process, i accidentally changed my host name (in the network device properties dialog box) from the default (localhost....etc) to something that i thought was correct.

after restarting, i can no longer log in at all. at the gdm prompt, the system will not respond to any keyboard input at all (but mouse input is still fine). does anyone know how to change the host name of the machine without actually logging in? or any other advice for me? thanks guys...

i meant to say "host name" not "domain name"

basically i'm asking how to change the host name back to "localhost" from the current entry...

solution

for those that were wondering, here is how to solve the problem:

- at the gdm prompt, press CTRL+ALT+F1 (to get a text-mode log in)
- log in as root
- edit the file /etc/hosts and restore the correct host name (localhost in my case)
- restart

thanks...
