Does the kernel recognize my touchpad?

Hi.

How can I check if the kernel recognizes my touchpad? It's currently not working, and from what I can see in /proc/bus/input/devices it doesn't seem like the kernel know about the touchpad at all. Isn't is so that all devices connected to the computer should be listed here, even though they're not active (i.e. the drivers and such are not loaded)?

It sounds like it's probably not.

Take a look here (or Google for similar pages):

Other troubleshooting tips (besides looking in "/proc/bus/input/devices", which was definitely a good idea) include:

* dmesg
* lspci (for board-based h/w)
* lsusb (for USB devices)
etc

'Hope that helps .. PSM

Thanks for the advice. I'll check out that link in a few days.
I've actually already tried those commands you mentioned, but with no sign of any touchpad.
