does the intel duo 965 chipset with envidia 8400m gs work ubuntu 7.10?

Hello mighty lords of lenox knowedge!

I bought an Intel Duo Core laptop only to find that it had the notorious 965 chipset with an integrated x3100 graphics. Unfortunately this set-up has been "black-listed" from Ubuntu 7.10's 3D eye candy because of incompatabilities. So, I did what anybody who's not happy with a product should do: I returned it for a full refund.... even after I added the extra OS and really did a number going throught the trials and errors along the road to finding out how easy Ubuntu 7.10 really is to install. I just told them that the machine wasn't working properly....... which didn't seem to be going over well with the "Geek Squad" guy; Then as I was trying to yuck it up a bit and get buddy buddy with him, the laptop gliched and he let me slide by without the insane $150 restocking fee! I digress.....

So, now to my present kunundrum: Would an Intel Duo Core t5450 with that same darn 965 chipset, but with an enVidia 8400m GS with its own dedicated graphics memory make a difference, or would I still be barking up the same incorrect proverbial tree?

I did find a really long list of hp laptops that were running linux successfully but none seemed to state having the configuration that I am considering.

What's that I hear in the distance? Is that an AMD 64x2 TL60 with an enVidia 8400m GS with its own dedicated graphics memory calling my name?

um, help?

Thank you, thank you,
Bobear
