Does fan work on Ubuntu 8.10 on Aspire One 160g

Hi,
I have installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my Acer Aspire One 160g. Does the fan work without any issues.
Thank you for replying

I have the older 120GB version as a dual boot with Ibex/XP. Aside from the MB crapping out after 2 months (warranty) all is well.

I've got the 120GB aspire and that thing has been a workhorse without any problems so far..(4 months). I've wiped off the hard drive and loaded different versions of Linux, (after trying the Live CD) and it keeps humming right along like the battery bunny...I have my "expensive" computer in a drawer. I actually like the Acer better..who would have thunk it...

cool...I guarantee when this one goes out I'll get another one..I stay away from the refurbished though..I've bought 2 refurbished desktops and both of them did not last a week..sad...but a new acer is really reasonable if you get the standard issue, but I always load more RAM, as they seem to come with only 1GB most of the time. We should start an Acer/Linux group I've got OpenSuse on the Acer right now and Ubuntu on the other machine. Then I have two other laptops with Vista and one more with Windows XP..so I am covered as far as operating systems go haha..I also broke down and bought two Asus EEE, 10", one with XP and one with Xandros(its the standard load on the EEE) and those are really cool, especially for walking around the mall looking for unsecure wifi...I own a small PC repair and network business so its all business expense; double haha....

You may need to tweak the fan settings, or you may want to install acerfand to quiet the fan..

This info is in the Ubuntu AAO Wiki.

Enjoy !!

Are you using a regular distro ISO or a netbook version?

Thanks for the reply. I purchased a Linux Format magazine with a DVD with ububtu 8.10 which I live booted from using a external DVD drive. I then use the program to make a bootable USB flash stick. I then use the USB stick to install ubuntu 8.10 to multiboot with Windows XP which was on a 160G drive. Everything is now working and I can hear the fan working so everything seems to be working now and I am quite happy with the ubuntu 8.10. (I had to use the information on Ubuntu Geek website to get the Atheros wireless card working)

Cheers,
Ken
