Question Does dd work for directories?

I am trying to do

dd bs=10240 cbs=80 conv=ascii,unblock if=/opt/hello/ of=/hello/hello.out

dd: reading /opt/hello/: Is a directory

0+0 records in
0+0 records out

so does it copy only files or does it copy directories as well?

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
