Comcast uses DHCP addressing, as long as you have a configured ethernet card, and a DHCP client, you should have no problem connecting to them....Their registration for activation is web browser based, so if you have X running on your computer you should be able to use Mozilla or Netscape to register. you will probably have to initially configure a proxy server on your machine for their activaton, but then after you are signed up you can get rid of it and be surfing at breakneck speeds. Their complimentary CD is for windows but if you call tech support they can walk you through the proxy server address you need, and the address for registering. or you can take the easy way out....use windows to register, then just switch to linux, all that their registration process does, is record your ethernet mac address for their records. and Once setup is done with windows, you just have to have install Linux with DHCP enabled. May I recommend Mandrake as well, it's very user friendly, if you register with MandrakeCLub they have great support, and it's easy to install. Slackware is a good distro to, however, it has traditioanally been a power user distro. Or I might even suggest my favorite Debian, but it's one caveat is that the surrent stable release 3.0r2 doesn't have hardware detection in it's install phase and if you don't know what driver you need for your hardware it can be a beast to setup.
