Do I need to symlink to cd-rom ?

I made a symlink to my dvd-rw and all seems well. When I install a cd in my cd-rom I get nothing. Do I first need to symlink /dev cdrom/ dev/scd1 in order for it to recognize the drive?

Sorry for the post. I answered my own question. I have two drives installed on my pc and had to symlink to each drive in order for them to both work correctly. All is good.
