DNS server access issue

Dear All,

I have configured DNS server in RHEL5 successfully.

I am able to query names in this server as well as other RHEL/Linux hosts.

However when i am trying to access it on HP-UX server, i am not able to query.

I have 2 questions:-
1) is DNS server(configured on RHEL) accessible on other unix based host like HP-UX?

2) if i want to query my DNS on HP-UX, what are the changes i need to make in my HP-UX host?

Please advise.

Hi there,

one thing to begin with: I'm not an expert to neither RHEL nor HP-UX, so take my reply as just a general help.

What exactly does that mean? What result are you getting when you try?
I guess that the HP-UX host has its own local DNS server running, and queries that one - or it's configured to use a completely different name server.

Normally yes. DNS is a general internet standard, and not subject to a certain OS type. It has to work just the same on Mac OS, on Windows, on Unix or any Linux flavor.

If my above guess is right: Reconfigure the HP-UX host to use your newly installed DNS. The IP addresses of the name servers are usually in /etc/resolv.conf, and maybe there's just 127.0.0.1 and/or an external name server IP on the HP machine. Add the IP address of the RHEL machine here.
Maybe HP-UX has a comfortable front-end to do that.
