Hello,

There is a lot of great documentation and step by step guide to be found at the Ubuntu documentation site. To set up DNS on Ubuntu using Bind you can follow this step by step guide. That's the best way to start out. You'll not find anyone here providing you step by step guides like that. Of course when you encounter problems you can ask your questions here, that's what LQ is here for.

Kind regards,

Eric

Well you really only need Bind9. for ubuntu just type in
Code:
sudo apt-get install bind9 bind9-doc
I say bind9-doc because it will give you great information on the setup and how dns works. After your done with that just edit the /etc/bind/named.conf.local or if you leave it as is you will have a dns cache server.

Can you give us a little more information on what you are trying to accomplish? Are you wanting to make this a backup DNS server, or are you wanting to make queries to the internet go faster?
