DNS configuration


Hi,
How to confgiure the DNS in Red hat 4.2.

you edit the file /etc/resolv.conf with your favorite text editor and add lines like this one:
Code:
nameserver 1.2.3.4
Where 1.2.3.4 is the ip address of your DNS.
(You need to do that as root)

Agrouf, he want to configure RH as DNS server.

OP, why dont you do some searching on google and here at LQ and then come back when you face issues while doing it.

nagavinodh, what do you want to do? Configure a DNS server or a DNS client?

I am pretty sure. He has some other threads started to ask for configuration of different servers on RH.

thanks for reply.I am newbie to Linux.What is the difference between DNS server and DNS client.I would lie to CONFIGURE the DNS for Oracle Real application cluser?

If just for oracle rac then do entry in /etc/hosts.
vi /etc/hosts
<ip of server> <dns name> <name>
for example
192.168.11.51 rac1.abc.com rac1
192.168.11.51 rac2.abc.com rac2
