ditching the bug

I want to do a comparison of the four easiest to install distros. I had my mind set on using Suse, Ubuntu, Knoppix and Mandrake, to decide which one to keep. As you can see i have two problem one was Mandrake, they merged, or became Conectiva. I have no idea if Conectiva is good or not or easy to setup. Instead of using Mandrake my four became Suse, Ubuntu, Knoppix and Mandriva.

I have the ISO's for Suse and Ubuntu and about to download Mandriva in a little while. My problem is with Knoppix now. It is only used as a live CD. I am doing this for my sister I already know she isn't going to want to put a cd in every time the computer restarts and it needs to be as user friendly and easy to setup and install things as Linux can possibly be.

What should my forth Distro be? Thank You

Go to distrowatch.com and look at the most popular list. I think PCLinux OS is a typical newbie recommendation.

Personally, I always recommend Debian, but many people feel it's too hard... :D

Although Knoppix was designed as a live CD, it can be installed to the hard disk and run from there. Have a look at http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/Category...e_Installation for more information.

I'd also recommend distrowatch though - limiting yourself to any 4 distros without other input could stop you finding a distro that really suits the way your sister wants to work...

Yea I already use distrowatch for myself.
To lazy to look at all the distros, at least for someone else. I might try to get her to do it, but i doubt she will.
Debian, lol not so right for her. It is in I think the top 20 for easy install but not the top 10, she needs to use something within that range.

pljvaldez nice links you have in your footer, I will give those a look at also.

Someone else has has said it could be ran form the hard disk but did not give the link. Thanks for the link. I know what the popular distros offers, you need to live a long time to find out what all the distros potential are. I will properly do it for my mom though, i will be destroying her bug shortly.

PClinux. I seen on distrowatch and it did not have an appealing name, but I can setup anything with the help of you guys, so I will investigate it and check if i like the setup up first and than check the other things.

Setup is the most important thing to me, more than likely she will ruin it in a week and have to do it herself. She is what i consider a typical user, needs to ber able to view her school website, write and submit papers, search the web listen to music and doesn't care how it works as long as it does it all the time.

Thanks for the help.
