Distro sugestions

Hi
I'm currently using debian etch on my Pentium D em64t (amd64 smp kernel). I have been using debian for a while and I want to venture out. I have used fedora and Ubuntu but did not like them much. Could anyone suggest a distro, considering my past record, which I'll be comfortable using. Debian is kinda slow in putting the latest software in their repository and I would like to use a distro that is a bit faster than debian in this regard. Also, I would like it to be one of the mainstream distros so that i don't get any support issues on my machine which i built myself.

Why not just run Debian Sid?

The only distros that might have newer packages than Sid are Suse, Gentoo, FC. But I may be wrong on that.

Things like Firefox get updated in Sid within a couple of days of the Mozilla releases, can't get much quicker than that.

Surprised what you say about SW in repositories--I have always found that the Debian family was among the most up to date.
Largely because of the package management system, I now recommend the various Ubuntus, Mepis, and PCLinuxOS (Mandriva cousin, but uses Debianese package management)

The reason I said it was slow on some areas was because I failed to find a working infrared remote package and support for my TV card. I have seen fedora users use the same TV card with ease. I am having issues with Alsa support for my Intel HD audio (low volume output) and my motorola phone. Moto4lin however picked up my phone in fedora. I did not like fedora, however, I only used fc4.

For the record I LOVE APT
