distro SRPMS

Downloading Fedora core 3 i am a little confused about what are the
SRPM isos. Have used redhat 9 disc to install kernel source when it
was needed for compiling and installing software. Have never been
advised to use the SRPMS for anything so i wonder what they are needed
for?

They are rpms that contain the source code of the distro.

okay, but the regular install disc has the
kernel source in it, so what would i need
the SRPMS for? thanks.

No, the source is not on the nstall disk for some reason and thats the only source rpm package you may have to download. There are some articles on the web and on this site regarding the Fedora Core 3 kernel source issue.
