I installed the graphics drivers for G965 chipset from the Intel's website and then installed Beryl.
Now, when i run Beryl the display is totally washed out. I can click the Start Menu with the mouse, run command but no text or icons are visible. I am able to get the rotating 3D cube though.
Before Beryl, i tried using the default Compiz with Xgl but it had the same problem.
Did you try Mesa included drivers? Did you do this with Xgl or AIGLX?
I have 915GM, and the combination that works is Mesa driver+AIGLX+Beryl. Pure compiz doesn't work for me, Xgl also..
Yup i have tried both Xgl and AIGLX and also Combiz and Beryl. I got the same problem. I think the drivers of the G965 i downloaded are not upto the mark yet.
Well, I failed to make XGL work soon after X11R7.1 release, and never tried after. With AIGLX and Beryl Firefox runs - in first launch, at least - more than half an hour, an hour maybe, but as I have a habit of leaving everything in background, half an hour is not a decent Firefox lifetime for me. And after crash the next can come quicker. Maybe in openSUSE XGL doesn't do the thing Firefox dislikes also. Thanks for information.
Well its kinda ironic but onboard graphics always suck(just my personal opinion) no matter how good it is. I suggest get yourself a real graphics card(well its your wish).
And i'm using Beryl since FC6 was released and had no crashes or whatsoever. My PC is awesome.
Beryl doesn't crash. Firefox built with non-default for it gcc4 does. And surely Fedora does at least something to check that there are no obvious incompatibilities between applications shipped on their CD. As for real graphics card - look my (absolutely) sixth post, it is called... I value 3.5+ hours of autonomous work way more than Beryl. Xscreensaver works OK, it's enough.
