Display Video appears "Cloudy" looking

I'm new to Ubuntu (and Linux).

I just installed Ubuntu 13.10 on my older Dell Dual Core Laptop. Love the OS!!1

The display appears "washed-out", "Cloudy", or "muddy" looking. In other words, not as crisp or clear as I'm used to seeing with a Windows installation.

Does anyone have any suggestions on "clearing" this up?

Thanks......go Ubunut!

Have you checked the display resolution? The first thing that comes to mind is it's set to a resolution other than that native to the laptop's display.

LCDs can be set to many resolutions, but when you match the video output mode to the actual pixel dimensions that make up the display, it looks best.

If that doesn't solve it, check in Display or Fonts control panels... and play with the hinting options.
