Display Settings
I have installed a new nVidia GeForce 6200 video card. I have display, but the screen is really big. All of the icons are really big and when I open windows they are always large. I have tried to make changes but nothing works. When I make a change it asks if I would like to test, I try and it tells me the test fails. Can anyone give me some help.

What do you mean by "changes", what specifically did you do?
What is your screen resolution? What Linux distribution are you using? Did you install any Nvidia drivers, if so, how did you install them? |
I am using suse 10.3.....I did install nvidia drivers from the interent. I am not sure if they are installed correctly...I am really new Linux....how can I verufy if the drivers are installed correctly

What is the output of:
# /sbin/lsmod | grep nv or: # /sbin/modinfo nvidia How are you trying to change your video settings? Are you using 'yast'? |
Well the video has gone....from the last time I messed with this thing. When I boot the machine up I get the error that the X server is not configured, it asked if I want to configure...I proceed thru the steps in runs. On one of the screens it states..."Failed to start the nVidia Kernel Module". If I use the command line and enter the commands above....
/sbin/lsmod | grep nv result - not a comman /sbin/modinfo nvidia there is a long list of result that start with... parm: NVreg_RegAGPRate:init the list continues and all lines end with :init I don't know what has happened....any ideas? Thanks, Travis |
I have gone thru the xorgconfig steps a couple of times and I now have video again. But everything is still larger than I would like it to be. The choices I have for resolution were something like 600X480...is there some where in the set up that I can add additional options?
