FC4 has the X.org X server. You could manually edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and add the resolutions you want. I guess there should also be some config tool like xorgconfig or xorgsetup or xorgcfg, at least they are here on Slackware and they are part of the X server code I think.

On Fedora you need to use system-config-display to reconfigure your graphics card. They removed the xorg config utilities which I think is wrong because sometimes those tools work better than distro specific tools.

thanks guys...

i found the system-config-display and setup some things in there...

says i need to restart X which a system restart should do...

but is there a way to do it without restarting the computer??

Just press:

Ctrl+Alt+Backspace

to restart the X Window System
