Display problems with boot message

Forgive me if this is answered somewhere else, I have searched this site and a few other, as well as HOW-TOs etc. Being a newb not sure if I am searching for the right info or not.

Here is the question/problem:

I have installed SuSE 9 on my workstation which has 2 video cards a Voodoo 3 3000 and an onboard Intel ( i think its the 810 chipset ). The BIOS is set to use the Voodoo 3 and that works fine in both windows and suse. The onboard appears to be ignored by both. When I boot to linux the display goes bad, and displays a bunch of horizontal lines. I can see the boot info being displayed but its not displayed correctly. I had to change lilo to be a text based menu just so I can select the boot image. This worked out fine, but once the linux image is selected is when the display whacks out. It will remain this way until KDM is loaded. At that point everything looks beautiful. Probably a total newb issue... just haven't found the right place to look for the answer. If anyone can direct me to a doc or give some suggestions, I would be most thankful.

TIA
ITL

is the AGP enabled in the BIOS??
since the on-board video is turned off, you may need to
turn on the AGP slot so Linux can see/use it.

The voodoo3 is actaully a PCI card, no AGP support on this PC... and like I said it works fine once KDM is loaded. If it was an AGP disabled issue would X work at all? :newbie:

I know this is probably a very lame question, and its really not that important I guess. I can always just look at the bootlog. But it does bother me, and this is the newbie section... figured someone would have something to say.
... anyone .... ?
