Display Problem in SuSE 10.1...

I just installed Linux for the first time and the bar at the bottom of the desktop where the button for programs and the time would be located doesn't display, because the picture is stretched off the screen by being too tall.

Now, normally this wouldn't be a problem because I would just edit this in my monitor options with the buttons on the monitor, but I tried that and there is no option for that. I spent 20 minutes looking, which was suprising because of the 10+ monitors I've used, I've never seen one that didn't have this option.

So, I am kind of stuck as to how to get this working, and help would be great.

If it helps any, this problem doesn't exist in windows on the same machine at the same resolution.

Thanks for reading, hopefully someone can help me out.

Regards,
YS

First, I would load up Windows and write down the settings for the monitor, especially the refresh rate. That can influence how large the image on screen is. Then reboot into SuSE and start Yast. Click the Hardware option on the left and choose the Graphics Card and Monitor option on the right. This will bring up a SaX2 X11 Configuration dialog with Monitor options preselected. Click the Change... button to the right of the label identifying your monitor and select the Sync Frequencies tab. Check that the Horizontal and Vertical frequencies match what Windows uses. Then click OK in all of the dialogs.
