Disk Partition Resize Trouble and Partition Questions

i'm trying to resize a fat32 partition and i get an error with qtparted - so it isn't going to work. yes, i scandisked and defragged, although, i don't think i rebooted from the defrag (i had to do all this in a 2nd computer b/c win98 won't boot my current computer).

i read that rebooting may be an important issue here. should i set up the win98 drive in the older computer, reboot and then try qtparted again, or am i wasting time?

i read that fips is an alternative.

can fips (dos program) run on a winxp computer (dos emulator???)? what abotu with a dos boot cd? do i need to move the HD to the old computer and boot dos from there (since HD runs win98)?

i have 8 total gigs i want to keep for win98 (6.5 gigs currently used). do i use fips to split off this 8 gig partition and then use another program to format the the other partition(s)?

i red ranish can do all this in one program. is it a good program?

thanks for the guidance.

Download the "Ultimate Boot CD" here:

http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

It collects a bunch of floppy based utliities on a bootable cd and was originally designed for people that don't have floppy drives. Several partitioning tools that are capable of resizing a FAT323 partition are included.
