Disk Druid newb question ->
Hello,
I am studying for the RHCE and am going through the book and have a question on Disk Druid. In the book one of the exercises is to partition the hard drive w/ disk druid as it says in the book. Here is the partition scheme it lays out. hda1 100MB /boot hda2 500MB swap hda3 5GB / hda4 4500MB extended hda5 500MB /var hda6 1000MB /var/www it goes on with a few more. Now when I go to disk druid and custom layout - I start to prepare the partitions. When I set a new partition it moves them the way it wants to. For example when I am creating the logical partitions I will do /var and then /var/www and it moves /var/www to hda5 and /var to hda6. I know that /var/www is bigger then /var so it looks like it is moving it according to the size. It does not let me do /var as hda5 and /var/www as hda6. Is this normal and the way Disk Druid works? I want to make sure because if it wants me to specifically do these partitions on the exam I want to be able to do this correctly. Also using Fedora Core 6 to do this. Thank you |
What happens when you make /var bigger then /var/www? also when you make /var bigger then /var/www try and make the partition /var/www before you make /var. See if you get the same result of it placing the bigger drive first.

However on the exam if it wants it the way listed above - then how can I do it as such? Or is there really no way to do it like that w/ Disk Druid? |
seems to me it may be a bug in disk druid. When you are a partitioning your drives see if you can find a force switch or box to check to make it stick to the desired partition number. Also I would do another test with say /usr and /usr/local to confirm that it is a bug.

Yeah it does it with anything I create. It makes the biggest size first then goes down the line. |
