disk drive full?

Well I come home and try to check email, and get message that my Kmail crashed, saying my drive is full. I figure that is impossible as I have a 120 GB drive, and have not had time to fill it yet. I use df at the terminal and get :
/dev/hda2 116178528 116178528 0 100% /
tmpfs 257364 0 257364 0% /dev/shm

which appears to mean my drive is full. I know my drive cant be full, (Linux running for a week) and I always keep my drive clean. I am afraid to reboot incase the thing locks up, any suggestions?

Something has likely gone nuts and chewed up you space. You need to find out what it is so you can delete it... You'll need to use du, or that graphical file directory thing that konquerer has... FSViewPart I think?

Or it's a filesystem problem and it needs fsck... Can't really say for sure.

the strange thing is this system is not slow at all, I am using it now and surfing with no real issues. any thoughts?
I'll try your commands now and post results
thanks

amosf! thankyou!

the command du (disk useage) I presume scored the goal, found a directory that just kept repeating itself like 3000 times a really weird named one too like @<insert garbage here> / @<insert garbage here> / @<insert garbage here> / @<insert garbage here> / etc....
deleted it and it cleaned up a lot of space.. I will have to go and find what else is weirding out on this system. Can you suggest a good antivirus proggie that will work in SuSE that takes minimal configuration, or at least is easy for a n00b to set up?

Thanks Again
Mike

After messing around for an hour I found that home/.xsession-errors was like 116 GB in size! I wiped it out and the drive free space went up a bit but was then full again. so I ran the KdirStat app and it stated I was using 6 GB of space which makes sense. so I finally rebooted and the drive space was again at 100% usage, I went to the home dir again and started to read .xsession-errors and found SuSE watcher causing problems, I killed the process and now it shows that I am only using 8% of the drive and I have all me free space back again, I'll have to investigate more in the morning when I am more alert to locate the real problem behind this and resolve it then.

is this why you're supposed to create a /home partition so any errors in /home don't interfere with the rest of the hard drive? i'm guessing the answer is yes. if so, that's the first time i've ever seen anyone actually need that.
