Disabling X needing a screen

Im using Debian 5 as a headless system. I have X installed to keep Vmware server working (it doesnt work without X) but, when I take out the screen, 'X Fails to start' and the whole thing wont respond until I shove a screen into it and reboot it.

Is there anyway to disable X needing a screen?

I don't know anything about it personally, but I know there's a "virtual X server" package named xvfb that can be used to simulate an X session in situations like this. You might check it out.
