I received another similar but useless email from SMC after referring them to this thread and reiterating my concern over the print server bug:

We are sorry to say that the Printer port is basically designed for windows
operating system only .So there is no settings in the Router's printer port
to disable the banner page printing in the Linux machine .Always ensure
that you have the latest firmware in the Router and if not you get the
latest firmware from the website www.smc.com
.After upgrading the firmware
you need to reset the Router to factory defaults and then do the
configuration from the start .
You can try the linux printer config setup given here .
Users of Linux have to set up /etc/printcap and the queue name is "lp". The
following is an example for Red Hat
Linux release 5.1:
Lippo, I hope SMC is moving on this, because I've seen no evidence from anything I've heard from them. Kudos to you for going mano a mano with the Tech Support director.
