Disable some services

Is the following a file I can modify to keep the battery monitor from loading on every login to my Knoppix (HD installed)?

S99kdm -> ../init.d/kdm*

That's from my /etc/rc5.d/

I tried the easy way of looking at KDE's services GUI menu but there wasn't a clear way to disable these services from starting automatically. The battery monitor accessed the hard disk much too often on my Dell notebook and I'd like to be able to only load it manually.

Battery monitor is generraly associated with services as APM or ACPI, KDM is the X client starter of KDE, nothing to deal with battery monitoring.

Okay thanks. There was actually a very simple GUI solution to the question that I had spaced on, but I wondered if there was one clearning-house file for getting the same effect on lots of services. Doesn't sound like it.
