Oh yeah, and the Ubuntu auto update is an easy fix to:
Open a terminal and type: gconf-editor
It will bring up a window with multiple folders, Click on APPS. A bunch of new folders will be avaiable, Just scroll them until you see UPDATE MANAGER ... Once you find it, Select it and in the pane on the right should be a box that says: CHECK_DIST_UPGRADES unmark that. (This will stop it from LOOKING for upgrades)
look underneath the UPDATE MANGER folder and you will see UPDATE NOTIFY, select the folder, in the right pane a box will be marked that says LAUNCH ON START, Unmark that. (This will stop it from TELLING you about the update-which it looked for-)
I personally have both unmarked.
After that the pesky updates should stop bugging you.
