Direct rendering problems with intel

Hey guys, I'm having a problem with direct rendering. I'm using Arch Linux. I have an integrated intel graphics. when i type glxinfo on eterm, it says direct rendering not enabled, but when i run the command under root, it says it is enabled. i have mesa and libgl, and on my xorg.conf dri and glx and stuff load as modules. theres this mmorpg game called battledawn, and when i try to run it, several details are missing. im using the intel driver. i hear, when i try to play battledawn, that my PC's fan spins very fast. Thanks for your help in advance.

Have you gone through the DRI troubleshooting document ?

Interesting that you get a positive response under root, but a negative response under a normal user...

I get a much different result.
Code:
default@debianetch:~$ glxinfo | grep direct
direct rendering: Yes

debianetch:~# glxinfo | grep direct
Error: unable to open display (null)
root isn't allowed to access X

some other info to look at would be errors in the Xorg.log

Check for errors
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep EE

Look at Warnings
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep WW
