Direct Rendering and 3D Accel?
Can someone please tell me how to enable DRI and 3D acceleration? I have tried time and time again, but cant get this.
Specs: OS: Suse 10.0 64-bit architecture CPU: AMD64 VID CARD: ATI Radeon 9800 PRO (R350) Thanks for the replies. PS: I have heard bad things about the current kernel (2.6.13-15-default). I look forward to learning about linux. Code:
jjohnson@linux:~> glxinfo |
Try http://www.google.com/linux and use search strings "direct rendering ati radeon" and "ati radeon howto" (both without quotes). You could also go to www.google.com -> Groups and do the same searches there.
I bet some of those links help solve your problem. I don't think the kernel is your problem - ATI's proprietary Linux drivers are just a pain in the ass. |
I suggest you read: http://linux.wordpress.com/2005/10/1...-installation/
you have to be careful (you have to reload the drivers if you [automatically] update ther kernel) I mention this in my post #150. |
Thanks gentlemen.
Thats a perfect guide minrich. |
How do I install kernel-source with Suse 10.0 OSS? I do a search in YaST, but cant find it...I am searching "kernel".

I cant get this to work. I was following http://linux.wordpress.com/2005/10/1...-installation/ and it was all working until I got to Step #8:
8. If you are running 64bit environment, then follow this, or skip to step 9 Update: Seems like that from version 8.18.6-x86_64 +, the patch command is NOT required, so skip this one, as this was needed with previous versions, to step 9 a. Download from SUSE FTP file called: fglrx64_6_8_0-8.xx.xx-1.x86_64.diff b. # cp fglrx64_6_8_0-8.xx.xx-1.x86_64.diff /usr/src/kernel-modules/fglrx c. # cd /usr/src/kernel-modules/fglrx d. # patch -p0 e. Then start again: # /usr/X11R6/bin/fglrx-kernel-build.sh 9. Once all this is completed, all that is left is to run sax2 to configure the driver: # sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx -b /usr/share/doc/packages/fglrx/sax2-profile The link no longer works to get "fglrx64_6_8_0-8.xx.xx-1.x86_64.diff". :( Now what? PS: I have kernel-source, gcc, and the make command all inststalled. -Thanks for replies, they are really appreciated. |
I didn't use the diff file. Mind you if you re-read my post #150 I was using a newer version of the ati and fglrx drivers, which I understand have since been replaced, also I am/was using Suse 10 boxed set.
Hope this helps |
try the post in my sig. has an extensive section on ati, but nothing yet on 64bit. would be interested in your experiences. all posts welcome.
