Question difficulty in red hat working eviroment


hello, i have install red hat 8.0 successfully but i am facing following problem
1). first of all my gnome panel fails easily
2). i have some software in *.rpm form on CD ,which i tried to install which gave me error saying "unable to read that file and saying Please check the permission of the cdrom"
so i tried to change the property after copying the CD that didn't seem to work . please help
3). i was trying to play big game(i thick so in terms of size) preinstall form the CD because of which the system becamed very slow.how to the system speed
4). in mandrake 9.1 it autodetected my harddisk under the forder /mnt
but i don't in RH 8.0 where it is i tried /man /misc /etc but i didn't found it please help

1) What do you mean by that?
2)If you want to install software you have to be root.
You can easely change the permissions for your cd-drive: log in as root; select you cd-drive in nautilus(or the kde variant), right click, properties, then permissions, then give the read, write & execute permissions.
3) Have you installed the drivers for your video card? Maybe you have no opengl support.
4)You have to mount your harddisks/partitions yourself.
Edit the file fstab. You can find it in /etc.
Read man mount & man fstab, it shouldn't be a problem once you have read those.
