Difficulties installing enterprise linux 4.5 on my hp pavillon notebook

Dear all,

I've been having some challenge installing enterprise linux 4.5 on my hp pavillon dv4 notebook.

It allows me to choose the language, keyboard type and just at the dialog were it asked installation method I chose 'local cdrom' from optons:local cdrom, hard drive, nfs image ftp, HTTP. Then it pops a dialog "No driver found"-unable to find any device of the type needed for this installation type, would u like to select a drivermanually or use a driver disk?

i was given options ranging from--select driver, use a driver disk, back.

I've tried all the available drivers but none seem to be working.

I had an issue once on an old system installing Fedora and found that typing the following at boot: prompt helped:

boot: ide=nodma

I don't know your Pavilion so don't know if that will help but it won't hurt to try.

I have no idea what "enterprise Linux" is -- I assume you mean "Red Hat Enterprise Linux", but you should tell us exactly which distribution you are using. Red Hat Enterprise Linux is designed more for stability in corporate environments and doesn't necessarily support the latest and greatest stuff. If you need to use the RHEL 4 series, you should use the latest update, which is 4.8 IIRC. However, if your hardware is new-ish, you may be better off switching to RHEL 5.3 (the latest ve3rsion of the 5 series), or something like Fedora or Ubuntu.
