different hard drives seem to respond differently to the same monitor

I think this is a hardware issue. I use different hardrives on the same monitor but some will not open and the rescue disk tells me to revert the 'splash' to 0. How do I do this when the disk will not mount in the first place?

Fred.

I don't understand how a hard drive has anything to do with a Monitor.. Could you rephrase the question ?
