Difference in the RAM's size and the size of the image of RAM (taken via dd), Why?

Greetings all,

I have a RAM of size 1GB. I took an image of it with the help of dd command but the size of image turned out to be 880MB. Why is there a difference? Shouldn't the image size also be 1024MB?

i used following command
Code:
dd if=/dev/mem of=/home/usman/image.dump
Thanks a lot

If you look in you're BIOS does it mentioned how much RAM is FREE
Mostly the system also use some RAM and that amount is not seen by the OS
How much RAM is used by the system depends on you're MOBO , graphic card and so on

I checked the BIOS setting once my machine boots up but i could not find any information regarding how much space of main memory is being used by my system. Figuring out now how to get this info.

Thanks for the reply though.
