difference betwenn yum and rpm -i
one of my friend told me to use "yum" or "rpm -i" command to install a .rpm pacage. what is the difference between the two. I tried the both.
When running yum install <XXXX>.rpm, it is giving some verbose information like connecting to internet and seems to download some packages which it didn't find in my system for satisfying the dependencies. but later on it showed there some dependencies are missing.so my assumption is wrong.
please explain me what exactly yum is doing in the process.
secondly, rpm -i is silently processed all the job and at the end said some dependencies are not met.
i have a lot of trouble with meeting these dependencies.is there any way to getrid of these dependency problems and complete the installation smoothly.
