Difference between different Distros?
 

I am using at present ultimate edition. I downloaded Fedora and tried the live CD. But I found that they are basically the same accept the theme. So what is the benefit of trying different distros?

Well if you look at it that way, all Linuxes and Unixes are the same.

Did you get into system adminning at all, or did you just look at Gnome?

Different distros do some things differently, but yes, some things are the same. Distros have different philosophies, tools, paid/community support, reputation, people backing them, resources, purposes, etc.

But sure, basically, they're all the same.

Besides the desktop the support forums for the individual distros have the greatest impression on me.

hey mate... desktops are not the only reasons
1. package management => debian is my favourite..mirrors all over the world... and .deb.packages are available in all architectures...
from the synaptic u see in ubuntu to simple .tar.gz files having code u compile linux has different distros... slackware and crux and gentoo dominate here.

2. Appealing => Desktops hell yeah are the hallmark for me... but i also look for performance when i tweak ma desktop looks...check Austrumi and crunchbang using lightweight DE like fvwm and openbox.... i use xfce

3. Easiness => the two stuff i said before could be either done by hand or if u want a wizard thats another choice that afeects distro coolnes...
