diff between installation process by live cd and dvd for opensuse
 

Live CD is restricted to less features.It comes with basic features needed by the desktop.
Where as Live DVD has some more s/w available than Live CD.

for ex. openSuSE KDE live CD provides KDE desktop , and s/w related to KDE.
openSuSE Gnome live CD provides Gnome Desktop environment and s/w related to Gnome.

where as openSuSE live DVD provides KDE,Gnome, XFCE and other desktop environments.
live DVD provides many softwares more than live CD's.

For some reason I think the DVD is a traditional installer and not live.

It is simply up to your choice. The DVD has more but it can all be later downloaded. Live cd you can play games while you install.

I have personally tried both, and the above posters covered most of the differences. I'll list all that I noticed here:

The DVD does in fact contain several GUI options including KDE and GNOME. You choose this during the installation.

The DVD does NOT allow you to boot into a live session, and runs much like a Windows disc which will let you repair a broken system or install a new system.

The DVD contains all the drivers you will probably need and activates them for you, thus the upgrade process after the initial install is minimal. This is important for certain graphics cards.

The Live CD will be, as one other poster mentioned, very light in what it has. It will have one of two GUIs and only the very necessary drivers. After the install, you will probably need to download several hundred megs worth of upgrades. I think mine was around 700 megs.

Over all I had a better experience with the DVD as it made everything much smoother and easier. Having a repair option is also great. However, not everyone can download 3 gigs of data at a reasonable time.

I like to have DVD of ubuntu 9.10..recent version..but only live cd is available from the site..from where I can get dvd version of it without any cost...from this forum i came to know that ubuntu is mostly used/popular in the world..for this reason i am interesting using it...kindly help me

It's not true. Live DVD's allows to boot into a live session. Example "openSuSE live DVD. this allows options

• Boot from harddisk
• install openSuSE
• repair installed System
• live KDE
• live Gnome
• ...

Use torrents to download ubuntu DVD.
