dialup stopped working with upgrade to hardy heron

Using external dialup modem, I can no longer connect to ISP via dialup. Can someone help? It worked fine with gutsy. I have a connection log that was created with OpenOffice Word Processor, but I can't paste it here because I don't have OpenOffice installed on this Windows machine I'm using to send this plea. Perhaps I could attach the file if someone responds by email.
Thanks,
mario001

Modem specs?
chipset?

See
#sudo lspci -vvv
and/or
#sudo lshw

post relevant part here

Also if you know the module name see

#sudo lsmod

or
#sudo modprobe <module>

Has it changed location?

/dev/ttyS2 may have become /dev/ttyS3.

Your modem actually connects and then disconnects because it has been idle for some time. Change the time out settings in your dial up program to start with.

If that does not work, do the configuration again.

For the manual

#man pppd
