Dialup?

Have installed mandrake 8.1 but am have trouble loging on to the net. Log's on but then disconnect's right away. The log only say's timeout expired while waiting for the ppp interface to comeup. and say's terminating on signal 15 . tryed editing the chap and other files but still get the samething thanks for any help.

Look into your /var/log/messages and search for this part about your dialling. There wil be your eror. If possible, send this part. (not the whole file, of course

Sorry but I can't get mandrake to boot backup to check the log you are telling me about..even reinstalled but no go..have had problem before with the same thing gets to the login win. then just flashes then will quit say init: "x" login to fast or something like that then shut off for 5 min. then will start all over. tryed start in safe but have no idea what to change to get past that please help thanks
