Dial-Up Slows Down ???

OK, I thought I was doing pretty good. I got my dial-up connection setup using KPPP and I've been using Firefox (and Thunderbird). My connection speed was awesome compared to windows at first (relatively speaking for dial-up), but lately it seems like the connection is good at first, and then I'll just sit and wait while Firefox says "looking up yahoo" or "waiting on yahoo". I can immediately logout and go into windows and it works fine. Any ideas?? What did I screw up this time? Thanks in advance.

Hmmm... you don't say which distro you're using. Some releases of Fedora had problems with their /etc/resolv.conf files. Also, while learning ins and outs of linux it's possible to alter a setting all the while having no idea that it affects something else. If you were originally able to connect, but not now, I would check that. Also check your firewall and security settings.

Setting certain dialup modems to connect at high speeds can also create problems, although this usually only affects downloads and not page loading or name lookups.

Good Luck

My apologies. I'm using FC4 with KPPP and Firefox. I took a look at the resolv.conf file and it only has two nameservers listed as "Kppp temp entry". Does that mean anything to you? Thanks again.
