Dial out on RedHat 9?

How do I dial out on RedHat 9. When i run WVdial it says s/t about there not being a [dialing defaults] section in the wvdial.conf file....i have no clue what this means or even how to edit the wvdial.conf file.

Also i have an internal PCI (not winmodem i hope) modem set to com3 in DOS is this set to a pci slot in redhat or ttyS2? also everyone says to do lspci to see if it is a winmodem but that is not a command...how do i do that?

Have you configured the wvdial with:

wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf ??

I believed it is a winmodem though. Search the forum for winmodem.

i got lspci to work...i guess you have to be on root. it gave the last line as being "conextand 56K HSFI modem"

is that a winmodem or not?

also i edit wvdial.conf and gave it a [dialer defaults] section and it doesn't give the no [dialer defaults] section anymoer but it says "cannot open /dev/modem device is busy or something i forget. sorry it is a pain to boot to linux then back to XP to post. i need to be online lol

No need to edit /etc/wvdial.conf except for user name, phone number, and password. Have you run the command wvdialconf? Can it find your modem?

Usually you get the "cannot open /dev/modem device ..." message because you dial up with wvdial using normal user account. You should use root account to dial up using wvdial.

Take a look at this:

hsf modem. maybe a winmodem since it is in limodem website. Have you installed any driver for the modem?

I'm pretty sure its a winmodem...i've been trying to install some rpm drivers but it gives me a message bout not being able to access /lib/modules/2.24.21-99-default/build i tried on root and on normal

I think you should try compiling the driver from source code. 1st make sure you installed kernel-source and other development tools. Then follow the instruction given in the modem driver source package. Some drivers may have different ways of installation.
