Question Dial ISP

Ok...im not totally new to Linux, but I have never set it up to dial out for an ISP, I have always used a broadband connection. Can anyone point me in the right direction to what Linux uses to dial out? I have Mandrake 9.0 installed. Thanks for any replies much is appreciated.

Linux uses the same any other computer would use, a modem that dials out along with Point to Point Protocol ( PPP ).
You can use programs like kppp or vwdial to connect with a dialup modem.

Try reading the modem howto at www.tldp.org

Typo alert: That should be "wvdial" btw.

You can normally set it up using your distros setup tools, on SuSE Yast does the trick nicely, I'm sure others have equivalents.

If you use KDE then try using KPPP to dial your isp and if you use Gnome, then I think it called GPPP, I've neva used gnome so not sure.
