dhcppc3 boot error message

i am very very new to linux (about 12hrs) so i apologies if this is a dumb question

i'm running fedora core 2, and whenever i login (as a user and as root) i get the following error:

"could not look up Internet address for dhcppc3. This will prevent GNome from operating correctly. It may be possible to correct by adding dhcppc3 to the file etc/hosts."

(I am sharing a cable connection with my flat-mates using a netgear router, which assigns ip addresses via dhcp)

what does this mean?

what to I edit in the hosts file?

Thanks in advance

Nandish
