DHCP pool start and end

Hi,

I created a DHCP-pool on my CentOS 5.3.
In my dhcpd.conf, I am having a line, saying:

range 192.168.1.101 192.168.1.199

Why does my client getting the IP address 192.168.1.199? Shouldn't it start on 192.168.1.101? Or is there some glitch in the sample file, and should there be a dash between the start and the end address?

No, no dash, you have it correct. I use ISC bind and it does not seem to have any particular way it assigns from the pool, only that it is a free address. You can look in the leases file to see what's free.

Using the DHCP server on my Windows 2003 machine, or the built-in DHCP server in my 3COM Router, I always get the first available IP-address. Here it seems to assign me the LAST available. I haven't tested yet with more clients (at this moment, I am having a cross cable between my new server and my client.

Ofcourse I can assign fixed IP addresses to some of my clients, but that is not what I want...

But if this is normal behaviour, I might look at it later... It's just an esthetical thing.
