device automount

Hi,

I wonder what is controlling drive automounting on desktop in Gnome? Why a USB drive shows on desktop once inserted, but correctly formatted eSATA drive does not when turned on? Perhaps something can be done using /etc/fstab, but nothing special is needed for formatted USB, it is just sort of automounting. Is there some daemon and how it can be manipulated?

Most likely it is set to 'on' in your Advanced Settings.
In other words; the show mounted volumes on the desktop is set to the on position:-

I don't know if there is a daemon for that; sorry.

Primarily udev daemon/service https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Udev; replaces the old hotplug tech.
