Detecting mouse / keyboard connectivity

I bootup my linux box, after network is all setup, I plucked out the mouse and keyboard.

It functions as good as before, but I have no way of knowing whether the keyboard or mouse (PS2) is attach to the system or not.

dmesg does not seem to detect anything.

Any takes?
